The Lord once said to St. Bridget:
“I am the creator of all things, and I have foreseen all things, and I know and see all that has happened and will happen. However, although I know and know everything, I do not act against the natural state of body or soul. For every man exists according to the natural arrangement of his body, which I have foreseen from eternity. If, on the other hand, one man has a shorter life, and another a longer one, it is the consequence of a greater strength or weakness of nature, and a peculiar state of the body. And if one is blind, the other lame, or afflicted with some other error, it is not the result of My foresight; for I foresee all things in such a way that no one may be made worse by them, or that My foresight should harm anyone.
This does not happen by the course or stagnation of the forces of nature, but by hidden justice, by disorder, or for the maintenance of nature. For sin and the disorder of nature cause many disabilities to the members. So this is not the result of My will, but because I allow it for the sake of My righteousness. For though I can do whatever I want, I never resist justice.
