Once upon a time an angel of the Lord said to St. Bridget:
“Satan is ugly in shape, coal-colored, and more hideous than all creatures. First before all, so he had to become uglier than all, because he rebelled against his Creator. Just as the Angel of God shines with the light of God and burns unceasingly in his love, so malice always fills Satan with inner fire and fear. As his malice is insatiable, so is the goodness of the Spirit of God and the grace of God ineffable. No one is so devoted to Satan that his heart is not occasionally visited and moved by the good Spirit; In the same way, no one is so good that Satan would not be willing to tempt him to evil.
