On one occasion the Lord Jesus said to St. Gertrude:
“Strive always to have good will, for in this way you will acquire the most beautiful and illustrious virtues, for by perfect good will there is more to be gained than by the most beautiful good works, in which good will was partly lacking. Someone who always has a perfect good will to praise Me, if he could praise Me more than all the creatures of the world, or the same will to love Me, or to thank Me, or to suffer for Me, or to exercise all kinds of virtue in the most perfect way, will undoubtedly receive a greater reward from My generosity and goodness than all others who have done various other good works.”
