On one occasion the Lord said to St. Mechtilde:
“Whoever wants to be My servant on earth, namely, by turning his eyes away from all obscene things and from unprofitable looking, I will open his eyes in heavenly glory to see the brightness of My Face, and I will show Myself to him in such joy that all the armies of heaven will be amazed with joy. And whoever keeps his ears
away from unprofitable and harmful hearing, to him will I sing with the sound of My voice a sweet song, for a separate praise forever. Whoever guards his mouth against superfluous and harmful words, his mouth I will open so brilliantly to proclaim My glory that he will praise Me with a special privilege before others. Whoever guards his heart against vain and evil thoughts and undesirable passions, to him I will grant him so much freedom that he will be able to rule over Me and all that he wants, and his heart will rejoice eternally with a special freedom and joy in My heart. Whoever binds own hands so that he does not commit sinful deeds, him will I generously release from all labor and grant him the grace of eternal peace. Moreover, I will exalt his deeds joined to Mine to such great dignity that the whole court of heaven will be happy with new joy.”
