St. Bridget writes in his apparitions that Satan, called by the Lord Jesus, said of himself:
“I was a seer when you created me in the greatest beauty; but because I have carelessly immersed myself in Thy radiance, I have been blinded by Thy radiance like a basilisk. I saw you when I wanted to see your beauty. I saw You in my conscience and I recognized You when You cast me down. I also knew You in the flesh You took upon Yourself, and I did what You permitted me to do. I came to know You when, by Your resurrection, You took away my prisoners from me. I acknowledge Thy power every day, by the power of which Thou hast reproached and harmed me.”
