On one occasion St. Mechtilde asked the Lord Jesus: “What is the use of a book containing her revelations?” The Savior said to her,
All who seek me with faithful hearts will find joy in it, those who love me will be more kindled in my love, and those who are sad will find comfort in it.”

How Satan Deceives People

On one occasion the Lord said to St. Bridget:
“Satan is jealous, but without God’s permission he can do no more than the straw under your feet. I have also told you that he is the father and inventor of lies, and that he never fails to add some truth to all his lies. That is why I say that Satan does not sleep, but walks around to find an opportunity and ambush you. Wherefore you ought to be on your guard lest Satan, who by virtue of the delicacy of his knowledge and by your outward movements knows thy inwardness, deceives thee. For sometimes He will send something cheerful into your heart, that you may give yourself up to vain joy, sometimes something sad, so that in the midst of your lamentations you may neglect to do many good things that you would have done otherwise. Sometimes he sends into the heart of the deceived one, who wants to please the world, a multitude of hypocritical things, by which, as by false prophets, he deceives many people. This is most often the case with people who love everything else more than they love God. Thus we know that among the many false words that Satan will speak,
there will be some that are true, otherwise he would not be able to deceive man if he did not use the truth for his lies.”
