On one occasion St. Mechtilde asked the Lord Jesus: “What is the use of a book containing her revelations?” The Savior said to her,
All who seek me with faithful hearts will find joy in it, those who love me will be more kindled in my love, and those who are sad will find comfort in it.”

Satan’s Reign Over Sinners

The Blessed Virgin Mary said to the venerable Mary of Jesus:

Righteous and holy men become instruments in the hands of God, who directs them and does not allow anyone to influence them, because they have given themselves completely to his divine will. On the contrary, there are many sinners who, having forgotten their Creator and Savior, have given themselves into the hands of Satan through repeated sins. He stirs them up to vices of various kinds, and uses them for whatever his perverse malice desires; as we see in Judas and the Pharisees, the murderers of their Redeemer.
The serpent of hell acquires a great influence on a person when he gives himself to him and does not see the danger that threatens him and does not try to use protective measures. When the soul gives itself over to sin, there is no created power to keep it from falling from the abyss into the abyss.
By reason of original sin, human nature, by its passions and concupiscences, is inclined to evil, just as a stone gravitates to the middle point of the earth. Bad tendencies are strengthened by bad habits. Added to this is Satan’s dominion over the sinner, which he performs in a tyrannical manner.
Who among men would like to be so great an enemy of his own that he should not fear this danger? Only the Almighty can keep it from it!
Nevertheless, people live in their misfortune, which is for them the state of their souls in mortal sin, so calmly and without care, as if by their own power they could free themselves from this satanic violence and correct all the evil done. True, there are many who see and recognize that they cannot rise from this fall without God’s help; However, this awareness does not bring them the desired fruits. For instead of begging God to give them His mighty hand, they insult Him and provoke Him more and more, and even persuade themselves that God will wait for them with grace until they are troubled to sin, or until the time comes when they will no longer be able to do their malice and to continue to show their insane ingratitude.
So, My daughter, fear this terrible danger and beware of the first sin. If you commit the first sin, you will resist the second sin less, and the enemy of your soul will be stronger and stronger against you. Remember that your treasure is great, and your vessel is fragile (2 Corinthians 4:7), and that by one mistake you can lose everything.
