On one occasion St. Mechtilde asked the Lord Jesus: “What is the use of a book containing her revelations?” The Savior said to her,
All who seek me with faithful hearts will find joy in it, those who love me will be more kindled in my love, and those who are sad will find comfort in it.”

Flower of Devotion

Like life, like death

The Most Holy Virgin Love said to the venerable Mary of Jesus:

“Life is followed by death, and the rule that as life was, so is death, is almost always true. The surest guarantee of a good death, therefore, is a good life, i.e., a life in which a man tries to detach his heart completely from all that is earthly and temporal. Attachment to temporal and earthly things weighs heavily on the soul at the hour of death; He keeps her in heavy chains to such an extent that she does not have full freedom and is unable to rise above the things she has loved in this life.
How differently they think of this mortal truth, and how much their lives are opposed to it! The Lord God gives them life, so that in his midst they may be freed from the effects of original sin, so that at the hour of death they may not groan under their burden; while Adam’s ignorant and unhappy children use their whole lives to burden themselves with new bonds, to die in them as subjects of their passions and slaves of their tyrannical enemy.
