On one occasion St. Mechtilde asked the Lord Jesus: “What is the use of a book containing her revelations?” The Savior said to her,
All who seek me with faithful hearts will find joy in it, those who love me will be more kindled in my love, and those who are sad will find comfort in it.”

How terrible is the certainty that the soul has been eternally condemned through sin

Venerable Mary of Jesus writes in her apparitions:

With all the apparitions I have had, God has never shown me the terrible end of a soul that has gone to damnation. This is the providence of God, for it corresponds to justice; Nor can the condemnation of the soul ever be revealed without good reasons, and if I were to receive such a revelation, I should have to die of terror. With all certainty, such a knowledge would have to result in death, for the knowledge that this or that soul has been separated forever from God is a source of sorrow in the highest degree. That is why I asked God never to reveal to me which person had been condemned. If I could free anyone from the state of sin at the cost of my life, I would gladly make such a sacrifice; I would also be ready to see the state of his soul; However, I would never want to see one for whom there is no salvation.
