The Blessed Virgin Mary said to the venerable Mary of Jesus:
“A just soul ought to put away as much as possible the flattery of creatures, whatever their kind. She should hate them, as well as conversations in which she could hear such praise. For these delusions obscure the intellect and lead to perverse thoughts, if a man is not on his guard. And God is so jealous of the souls whom He loves tenderly, that He immediately turns away from them when they accept the praises of men and take delight in their praises. By such recklessness they make themselves unworthy of His grace. It is also impossible that the flatteries of the world and the consolations of God can be united in one and the same soul; the last are true, holy, pure, constant; They make the heart humble and pure, they give it light and peace. The praises of men are vain, unstable, deceitful, impure, and deceitful; because they come from a mouth that the Scriptures say are deceitful (Psalm 115:11). And what is a lie is also the work of the evil one
