On one occasion St. Mechtilde asked the Lord Jesus: “What is the use of a book containing her revelations?” The Savior said to her,
All who seek me with faithful hearts will find joy in it, those who love me will be more kindled in my love, and those who are sad will find comfort in it.”

Enemies of the Soul – The Lusts of the Flesh

The Most Holy Virgin Love said to the venerable Mary of Jesus:
“Among the dangers that threaten human infirmity, there is one that comes from the concupiscence of the flesh. Precisely because man is crippled and the flesh is an enemy that never sleeps (,,.. the body is the enemy that never sleeps” not in the sense of the body or anatomical sleep, but in the sense of the body as temporality, concupiscence and the action of the evil spirit on it – the enemy of the soul. Editor’s note.,) and at the same time he dwells in the interior, hence by this enemy a great many human souls perish for the grace of God. The simplest and surest means of gaining victory over it is to lead a life of bitterness and suffering, to give the senses neither peace nor pleasure, and to watch over them lest they desire or demand anything more that is necessary and not contrary to reason. The second means is to try to please God more and more and to reach the goal that man should achieve.
