On one occasion St. Mechtilde asked the Lord Jesus: “What is the use of a book containing her revelations?” The Savior said to her,
All who seek me with faithful hearts will find joy in it, those who love me will be more kindled in my love, and those who are sad will find comfort in it.”

A Soul in a State of Mortal Sin

Sin is the poison of the soul
Once the Lord said to St. Bridget:

I am without beginning and without end, and all things were created by My power and arranged by My wisdom. And I govern all things by My judgments, and nothing is impossible to Me, and verily, I have ordered all My works with love.
That is why the heart is hard, and it does not love me or fear me, even though I am the breadwinner of men and their judge.
But people do the will of Satan, who is My executioner and their traitor. To this end, Satan has presented to the world a poison so injurious that the soul which has tasted it with pleasure cannot live; but the dead falls into hell to be there in misery for ever. That poison is sin; It tastes sweet to many, but in the end it becomes terribly bitter.
Indeed, this poison from the hand of Satan is drunk by people with continual relish. Has anyone ever heard anything similar, or perhaps stranger than this? For I give life to men, and they choose and accept death voluntarily.
