When, one day, during the Holy Mass, St. Mechtilde heard the words in the Gospel: “And on the third day she will rise again”, she fell to the ground, thanking God for raising man from the dead and for the future transfiguration of man. And behold, in the chapel where she was praying, she saw the three holy bodies of the dead, which were buried under the altar, rising from their graves, and with outstretched arms, as if flying to Heaven and giving thanks to God. Their hearts were adorned with precious jewels, and they moved joyfully, as if they were rejoicing in the good deeds they had done in life.
Then the saint said to the Lord, “Ah, my Lord, how will these bodies receive their souls again? Or what will be their brightness when the soul is reunited with them?” And the Lord answered, “In the future resurrection the body will be seven times brighter than the sun, and the soul seven times brighter than the body, and it will shine through all the members of the body and like the sun. When the soul has again put on its body as a garment, I will illuminate its whole interior with an ineffable light, and so will the resurrected in the heavenly dwelling shine forth, body and soul without end.”
