On one occasion the Lord said to St. Gertrude:
“Just as the body is made up of its various members united to itself, so it were, its earthly life is made up of different feelings, which are fear, sorrow, joy, love, hope, jealousy, hatred, shame. In proportion as man exercises himself in these natural inclinations for My glory, the more he will find in Me that incomprehensible and ineffable joy and quiet delight which I have prepared for the enjoyment of eternal bliss.
And when this mortal body in the future resurrection is clothed in an incorruptible state, then all its members will receive a special reward for all their labors and deeds which they have done in My name and out of love for Me. That is to say, the soul will receive incomparably greater dignity and excellence for all the holy acts which it has performed for My glory, for true contrition for its sins, and even for the loving cultivation of its body for My service.
