On one occasion St. Mechtilde asked the Lord Jesus: “What is the use of a book containing her revelations?” The Savior said to her,
All who seek me with faithful hearts will find joy in it, those who love me will be more kindled in my love, and those who are sad will find comfort in it.”

The Incarnation of the Son of God

Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary that she would become the Mother of the Son of God
Venerable Mary of Jesus describes in her apparitions the incarnation of the Son of God in the virginal womb of Mary as follows:

At last the happy day has come, and the full hour of grace in which the Son of God, according to the eternal decree of the Most Holy Trinity, was to descend from the bosom of the heavenly Father into the womb of the Blessed Virgin, in order to assume our human nature and begin the work of salvation in mortal flesh. The Most High revealed to all His angels that now the fullness of time had come, and that He would now hasten down into the world for the salvation of men, to become man in the womb of Mary, His chosen Mother. Then the Most High spoke to the holy Archangel Gabriel and gave him the message to take to the Blessed Virgin.
The Archangel Gabriel listened with indescribable joy to God’s command and made preparations for his descent from Heaven accompanied by many thousands of angels. This great prince and envoy had the form of a young man of wondrous beauty; His countenance shone brightly, and his expression was grave and majestic. His attitude full of dignity, his words full of importance and power. His whole person, full of solemnity and goodness at the same time, represented the Deity in a more perfect manner than any other angel whom the Queen of Heaven had ever seen in a similar form. He wore a diadem of extraordinary brilliance, and his splendid garments glittered in all sorts of colors, which shone with great brilliance. On his chest he had a wonderfully beautiful, gold-framed Cross, marking the mystery of the incarnation of the Son of God, for which purpose he had come to fulfill his message.
The whole host of heaven, with its leader and prince, St. Gabriel, went to Nazareth, a city in the land of Galilee, to the dwelling place of the Blessed Virgin Mary. That dwelling was a poor house, and her room was a little room without any of the ornaments which the world needs to cover its lowliness and its poverty in respect to higher goods.
The Blessed Virgin was now fourteen years, six months, and seventeen days old. As the messengers from Heaven approached her, Mary was immersed in meditating on the mysteries that the Lord had recently completed in her. And since the Lord had assured her that His only begotten would soon come down to take upon Himself a human form, the great Queen was filled with zeal and joy, believing in this promise, and in earnest and humble words she implored their fulfilment.
The Blessed Virgin Mary was busy with such prayers and acts when the Archangel Gabriel entered her. She was very pure in soul, very perfect in body, very noble in thought, very sublime in holiness, full of grace, and in every way so similar to God and so pleasing to God, that she could be His worthy Mother and an efficacious instrument to bring Him from the bosom of the Father to her virginal womb. Mary was a powerful means of our salvation. With the greatest modesty the Most Pure Virgin looked at the archangel, and only as much as was sufficient to recognize in him the angel of the Lord. When she knew him, she wanted to bow down before him in her usual humility, but the holy prince of heaven would not allow it.
Indeed, he himself worshipped her profoundly as his Queen and Lady, in whom he worshipped the divine mysteries of his Creator.
Then the archangel greeted our and his Queen, and said, “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you; BlessThou art among women.” On hearing this angelic greeting, the humblest of creatures was frightened. This fear had a twofold cause; the first was the deepest humility, in which Mary considered herself the least of all men; Meanwhile, when she thought of herself with such humiliation, she heard in her greeting that she was blessed among women. The second reason was that at the very moment when she heard the angel’s greeting, the Lord revealed to her that He had chosen her as His Mother. And this was what she was so afraid of, because of the little opinion she had of herself. That is why the angel, explaining God’s will, continued: “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, thou shalt conceive and bear a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus; He will be great, and he will be called the Son of the Most High.”
Our wisest and most humble Queen was the only one of all creatures capable of recognizing and appreciating this wondrous mystery with dignity, and as she knew its greatness, she was greatly astonished, and said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know my husband?” The heavenly envoy answered her: “Queen! It is easy for God’s omnipotence to make it possible for you to become a mother and remain a virgin. The Holy Ghost will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will protect you, so that the Holy of the Holy of Saints, who will be called the Son of God, may be born of you.
And behold, thy kinswoman Elizabeth also conceived in her old age, and this is the sixth month from her conception. To the son whom thou shalt bear God will give the throne of his Father David, and to his kingdom there will be no end.”
With these words the heavenly messenger instructed the Blessed Virgin, so that by recalling her the promises of the Lord, and by believing in the infinite omnipotence of the Most High, she might remove all fear. The Blessed Virgin withheld her answer for a while longer, for she considered that the fulfilment of God’s promises and prophecies, the opening of the gates of heaven, the restoration and victories over hell, the salvation of the human race, the satisfaction and reparation of God’s justice, the founding of a new law of grace, the happiness of men, the joy of the angels, depended on her. In a word, everything that is enclosed in this great mystery that the only-begotten of the Father was to become man and take the form of a servant in her virginal womb.
Mary contemplated and came to know the immeasurable greatness of the dignity of the Mother of God, which she was to acquire by pronouncing the words: “So be it!” So she gained superhuman strength; and having contemplated the greatness of this sublime divine mystery, and having just received the message from the angel, she gave herself up in spirit to admiration, praise, and the highest and fiery love of God. By the power of these acts and movements of the soul, the purest Heart of Mary was embraced, as if by a natural effect, so strongly compressed that three drops of the purest blood flowed from it. From these three drops of blood was formed in the most pure womb of Mary, by the power of the Holy Spirit, the Body of Our Lord Jesus Christ. At the same time, Mary bowed her head with indescribable humility, folded her hands, and pronounced those words which were the beginning of our salvation: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord, let me sow according to your word.” Thus the incarnation of the Son of God was completed.
It happened on Friday, March 25, at dawn in the morning, the same hour at which our first father Adam was created in the year 5199 A.D.the Church of Rome counts it in the martyrdom.
