Flower of Devotion

The Blessed Virgin Mary said to St. Bridget:

“I am she who has been in the love of God from eternity, and the Holy Spirit has been completely with me since my childhood. Understand this in the case of a nut which, as it grows, by the expansion of the shell on the outside, expands itself, and the nucleus also grows on the inside, so that the nut is always filled, and there is no void in it to receive anything external.
In the same way, I have been filled with the Holy Spirit since my childhood, and as my body has grown and multiplied in years, I have been filled with His fullness by the Holy Spirit. So that there was no empty place in Me that could facilitate sin’s entry into My heart.
That is why I am the one who has never committed sin, either venial or mortal. For I was so full of God’s love that I liked nothing but to do God’s will. After all, the fire of God’s love burned in My Heart.
In the same way, God, blessed above all things, who created me by his power and filled me with the power of the Holy Spirit, loved me with a fiery love. And out of this ardent love, He sent His messenger to Me, and made known to Me His will, that I should become the Mother of God. When I knew that this was the will of God, there immediately came forth, by the fire of love that I had in my heart for God, a word of true obedience came out of my mouth, by means of which I said to the messenger, “Let it be done to me according to your word.” And at that moment the Word became flesh in me, and the Son of God became my Son, and so we both had one Son, who is both God and man, just as I am a virgin and a mother.”
