On one occasion St. Mechtilde asked the Lord Jesus: “What is the use of a book containing her revelations?” The Savior said to her,
All who seek me with faithful hearts will find joy in it, those who love me will be more kindled in my love, and those who are sad will find comfort in it.”

Liberation of Souls from Purgatory

St. Mechtilde writes in her apparitions as follows:

On All Saints’ Day, when I was praying with the whole Church for the souls who had repented of their sins in purgatory, I saw a great furnace, black on the outside and filled with fiery fire inside. When I looked into the fire, I saw how the souls were standing in flames and burning like straw. Then Someone stood beside me, like a great angel, and I asked, “Why do these souls come out of the furnace so much when the prayers of pious people come to them? Some crowded, but others didn’t.” The one I asked replied: “When these souls were still on earth, they did not want to help those who were in need and asked them for help.”
Moved by pity, I cried out to Heaven: “Oh, God, if I could come down to them and suffer with them, that they would come to You all the sooner!” It turned out that the One who was standing next to me was the Lord Jesus; For he said to me lovingly, “If you want to go in there, I will go with you.” Then He took me and led me to Purgatory, and because I was with the Lord, I did not suffer. I also asked the Lord: “How many souls are there here?” And the Lord said, “You cannot count them, and these are the souls for whom you prayed while they were still alive on earth.”
Now I knew among the souls the one for whom I had prayed thirty years ago and longed to set him free. But in my misery I did not dare to ask the Lord for so great a grace; Yet I said, “Dear Lord and God, would you not be willing to set them free?” And at that moment all souls rose up with great power and in unspeakable bliss, whiter than snow, and soared to Heaven in sweet pure joy, and rested there after their sufferings.
When they rose from Purgatory, they sang the psalm, “Praise, O little children!” and then, “We praise You, O Lord, for Your great goodness, for Your gracious gift, and for your faithful help!”
Yet the Lord stood near the fire and held me; Then I said, “Ah, Lord, You know well what I want!” I wanted to fall at His feet to thank Him. Then the Lord sat down and I thanked Him for the grace to be able to look at the great glory that God had bestowed upon these poor souls. On the Lord’s feet I found the rosy wounds of our redemption and prayed, “Lord, give me Your blessing!”
The Lord answered, “I bless you with My wounds.”
