On one occasion St. Mechtilde asked the Lord Jesus: “What is the use of a book containing her revelations?” The Savior said to her,
All who seek me with faithful hearts will find joy in it, those who love me will be more kindled in my love, and those who are sad will find comfort in it.”

The Scourging of the Lord Jesus

According to the apparitions of Venerable Mary of Jesus:
So the Savior came a second time to the house of Pilate. The Jews promptly demanded that the Lord be judged again. Pilate, however, knowing well the innocence of Christ and the bitter hatred of the Jews, was not very pleased that Herod had again forced upon him this disagreeable affair, from which he preferred to absolve. However, being obliged as a judge to deal with it, he was looking for a new way, as if to send the Jews away with nothing. So he said to them, “You have brought this man to me with a complaint that he teaches the things of faith and stirs up the people; but when I have interrogated Him in your presence, I have found that He is not guilty of what you accuse Him of. In the same way, Herod, to whom I sent him, did not condemn him to death, although you complained against him before him. So I will content myself with scourging Him, so that He may improve for the future. And since I must release one of the thieves for the feast of the Passover, I will let Christ go, if you will give him freedom, and I will punish Barabbas.” When the Jews saw that Pilate insisted on letting Christ go free, they cried out together: “Away with him! Down with Christ! Release Barabbas!”
Preparations were soon made for the scourging, which were entrusted to six thugs of the fiercest disposition. They brought the Lord out into a spacious chamber and forcibly tore off his garments from his body; except the loincloth the Savior had around His loins, which they could not take off. Then
they tied Him to a pole and scourged Him two by one. They did this with such unheard-of cruelty that no human being would have been able to do so had not Lucifer chosen to dwell in the hearts of his ungodly servants. The first two beat the Lord with whips of knotted and thick cords, and in this sacrilegious conduct they exerted all the fierceness of their fierceness and the strength of their souls. With these first blows they covered the glorified Body of our Saviour with great welts, so that it was all covered with blood, swollen and unrecognizable, and from all sides flowed the Most Holy Blood from the Wounds.
When the first robbers grew tired, two others took their place. With unspeakable cruelty, they scourged the Saviour with leather whips after the first wounds inflicted by the previous scourgers. The scars and tumors previously inflicted reopened, and the Divine Blood flowing not only watered the whole Holy Body of our Savior Jesus, but also poured out on the garments of the wicked executioners, and even flowed to the earth.
Now a third pair of thugs joined. They used new instruments of torment, that is, whips made of goiter veins, hard and dried up like rods of willow. They scourged even more cruelly than their predecessors, because they no longer beat the body of the innocent Jesus so much as they did the wounds already inflicted by the previous flagellants.
Since the most holy body of the Saviour, as a result of the blows already received, represented as one great wound, the last pair of robbers no longer found a place on it to inflict new wounds. By inflicting inhuman floggings, they caused the Most Holy Body to crumble beneath them, many of which fell to the ground. On some parts of the back there were bones so exposed that they could be seen wider than the area of an adult’s hand. In addition to this, the thugs also struck the Face of the Lord Jesus and His hands and feet, so that there was no place that did not always reach them.and which would remain healthy and intact. The Most Holy Blood flowed in streams to the earth and collected in some places in great quantities. The most venerable Face of Jesus was completely swollen and covered with wounds. Due to tumors and clotted blood on it, it could not be recognized. With all the plagues the Lord Jesus received five thousand one hundred and fifteen ( Other mystics give an approximate number of
wounds, always close to 5,000. Mystical souls give this amount depending on whether they saw in the visions the scourging itself or a longer period of the Saviour’s Passion. Editor’s note.
)
Thus the great Lord and Creator of the whole world, unable to suffer because of the divine nature, became to us in the form of our mortal flesh a “man of sorrows,” as the prophet Isaiah foretold. And the Saviour knew our weaknesses from His own experience, and this to the highest degree; and besides, he was considered the least among all men, as an outcast from among all.
