On one occasion St. Mechtilde asked the Lord Jesus: “What is the use of a book containing her revelations?” The Savior said to her,
All who seek me with faithful hearts will find joy in it, those who love me will be more kindled in my love, and those who are sad will find comfort in it.”

The Passion of Jesus

According to the revelations of the Venerable Mary of Jesus:
Jesus on the Mount of Olives

By the miraculous mysteries performed in the hall of the Last Supper, our Savior Jesus Christ founded and ordered the kingdom which the eternal Father gave to Him according to His unchangeable judgment. And now, on the night after the Last Supper, he decided to take up the hard struggle of life and death by which the work of redemption was to be accomplished.
So He left the upper room and went with His disciples to the Mount of Olives. At the same time Judas ran to the chief priests and told them that now was the best opportunity
to arrest Jesus. The chief priests rejoiced greatly at this news; so they gathered together a multitude of armed multitudes to arrest this most innocent Lamb at once.
The Savior crossed the Kidron River, approached the Mount of Olives, and entered the Garden of Gethsemane. Here he said to all the apostles, “Sit down here and wait, and I will go a little further away and pray; pray also with me that you do not fall into temptation.” Then the Lord Jesus left the eight apostles and went with St. Peter, James, and John to another place where the rest of the apostles could neither see nor hear Him.
Here he commended himself again to the heavenly Father as a atoning sacrifice, to obtain redemption from his justice for the whole human race. To this end, He permitted the torments of His Passion and Death to touch that part of His Most Holy Humanity which could be subject to suffering. Henceforth He renounced all the consolations and refreshments that might still come to His Humanity, so that His sufferings and afflictions might reach the highest degree.
Now a whole sea of suffering poured into the most holy soul of Jesus. In great fear and sorrow he said to the three apostles, “My soul is sorrowful even unto death.” Then, moving a little away from them, He fell with His most holy face to the ground and prayed to His Eternal Father: “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup depart from Me; but not My will, but Yours be done.”
This prayer was said three times by our Savior, intermittently. He prayed, as St. Luke describes, for a long time and amid mortal fears that were so painful that the Divine Saviour sweated Blood and His Most Holy Blood fell to the ground.
In this greatest sorrow, the most loving Jesus received consolation and consolation from St. Michael the Archangel.
According to the account of the Evangelists, the Lord Jesus went in the pauses which He made in His prayer to the Apostles; He found them asleep every time. For grief and grief so weakened them that they fell into a state of indifference and mental anesthesia, in which state they were easily put to sleep. Before the Savior awoke them and spoke to them, He looked at them and wept over them, seeing them given over with such indifference and drowsiness; while Lucifer was constantly watching to bring them down. Then the LORD said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Couldn’t you watch with me for an hour?” Then he turned to all of them and said: “Watch and pray, lest you fall into temptation; for our enemies and yours do not sleep, even as you do.”
When the Lord Jesus returned to his disciples for the third time and found them asleep again, He said to them, “Sleep and rest now, for the hour has come when the Son of man will be delivered into the hands of sinners. Stand uplet us go and go, for he who betrays me is near.” Then the disciples arose, and the Lord Jesus went with them to the place where He had left the rest of the apostles. He found them also asleep, for they were asleep because of great sorrow. Then the Lord Jesus gave all the apostles a common admonition, to prepare them for the events to come.
The noise and shriek of the soldiers and servants of the high priests approaching the arrest of the Lord Jesus was now heard. The Savior stepped forward a little, and at that moment Judas drew near to Him to give the appointed sign to his companions. For he told them that the one whom he would greet and kiss was his Master. They are to seize him at once, so that they do not catch someone else by mistake. So the traitor approached the Lord Jesus, kissed Him on the face, and said, “Hail, Master!”
The most loving Savior answered him, full of love and gentleness, “Friend, why did he come here? With a kiss you betray the Son of Man!” At the same time, the Savior gave His traitor the grace of a clear and accurate knowledge of the crime, that he might repent. But the ungodly disciple resisted this last grace also, and his downfall was finally decided.
Then the Lord Jesus spoke to the soldiers with great force and solemnity: “Whom are you seeking?” And they answered, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus answered, “I am He.”
To this infinitely dear and happy to the human race, Jesus called Himself our Savior and Redeemer. Thus he has given us a sure assurance of our redemption and an infallible hope of eternal happiness. For it depended only on the Saviour’s giving Himself and redeeming us through His Passion and Death.
At these words of the Saviour, the whole company of the wicked fell to the ground. After some time, when the Lord Jesus allowed them to get up, He said to them a second time, “Whom are you seeking?” And they answered again, “Jesus of Nazareth.” The Savior replied with the utmost gentleness: “I have told you that I am He. So if you are looking for Me, let go of those who are with Me!”
With these words, the Lord Jesus gave permission to the soldiers to seize Himself and, unbeknownst to them, to execute His sentence, by which He chose to take all our sufferings and afflictions upon His Divine Person.
Now they rushed upon Jesus like vicious tigers, seized the most meek Lamb, bound him with ropes and chains, and brought Him to the high priest.
