On one occasion St. Mechtilde asked the Lord Jesus: “What is the use of a book containing her revelations?” The Savior said to her,
All who seek me with faithful hearts will find joy in it, those who love me will be more kindled in my love, and those who are sad will find comfort in it.”

St. Mechtilde’s vision of the baptism of Jesus

In the apparitions of St. Mechtilde we read the following:
When the holy night of the Epiphany was sung: “In columbae specie” (“In the shape of a dove”) St. Mechtilde saw the Lord Jesus in a snow-white robe. She understood that when St. John baptized the Lord Jesus and heard the voice of the Father and saw the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove, he saw the Son of God in the form and form that the three disciples on Mount Tabor had seen in the Transfiguration. And since she was thinking about it and wanted to know if St. John the Baptist had been baptized by the Lord Jesus, for he had said, “I am to be baptized by you,” the Lord said to her, “When St. John touched me and immersed me in water, I baptized him because he desired to be baptized of me and thought that he needed my baptism. That is why I baptized him as Christians with My innocence. And to all those after him who are baptized in My Name, I impart My innocence, whereby they become children of the heavenly Father.
That is why the Father says of every baptized person: “This is my beloved son!” And He is well pleased with Him, as He is with His only begotten Son. And when a man loses this innocence through sin, let him acquire it again through true repentance.
And when they sang, “Listen to Him!” St. Mechtilde said, “My Lord, in what shall we obey Your Son?” The Lord answered, “Listen to him, when he says to you, ‘Come to me, all you who are afflicted.’” Listen to Him
as He teaches you, “Blessed are the pure in heart!” Listen to Him as He speaks to you: “Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life!” And “He who follows me does not walk in darkness.” Listen to Him when He commands you, “This is my commandment, that you love one another.” Listen to Him when He threatens: “By which judgment ye judge, so ye shall be judged!” And again: “Whoever does not bear his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. But woe to the world for scandal!
