On one occasion St. Gertrude heard two sweet and wonderful movements of the Sweetest Heart of the Saviour, which the Lord Jesus explained to her in the following way: “Each of these movements mediates the salvation of men in a threefold way. The first movement mediates the salvation of sinners, the second the salvation of the righteous. Through the first, I speak unceasingly to My Father, appease His wrath against sinners, and incite Him to have mercy on them. Moreover, I turn to all the saints, I acquit sinners before them with the zeal and love of a brother, and I encourage them to intercede for them before God. Finally, I speak to the sinner himself, I call him to repentance full of mercy, and I await his conversion with unspeakable desire.
By the second movement of My Heart, I first beseech My Father to rejoice with Me that I have not shed My Blood for the righteous, in whose heart I now experience so many delights. Secondly, I stir up all the hosts of heavenly to give glory to Providence which watches over the just, and to give thanks to Me for all the benefits which I have done and will continue to do to the righteous. Finally, I speak directly to the righteous themselves, give them proofs of my love, and exhort them to persevere day by day, hour by hour, in doing good.
And just as the movements of the human heart, either by the acts of sight or hearing, or by any manual work, are subject to any interruption, but are constantly untiringly repeated, so My solicitude, with which I govern Heaven and the earth, and the whole world, is never able to diminish these two movements of My Divine Heart, nor to restrain them for a moment.”
