When St. Gertrude, contemplating the Passion of Jesus, felt a strong emotion of pity because it was said to the Saviour, “You have Satan!”, by which they wanted to say that he was possessed, and she could not bear the fact that he was treated so unworthily, she began to pray in the following words:
“I salute you, O living pearl of divine excellence! Hail, O most worthy Jesus, of love! Thou unfading flower of human nature! You are my highest and only happiness!”
The Lord Jesus showed the saint in the most tender way how infinitely pleasing this prayer was to Him, and said: “Whosoever salutes, like you, for the insults and insults which I have suffered on earth, to him by My infinite grace on the day of judgment, when he dies, and when he is burdened with the accusations of Satan, I will show you the same kindness that I show you today, and comfort him with the same words, with which I have comforted you. And if the saints, as you have seen, were so astonished at the words I spoke to you; how much the enemies of man and his soul will be astonished, and how they will tremble when they have to see how wonderfully My goodness will comfort them.”
