On one occasion, when St. Mechtilde, kissing the wounds of the Lord Jesus, approached the wound of His Sacred Heart, she saw it open and smoking like a burning torch. Then the Lord said to her, “Come in and walk the length and breadth of My Divine Heart. The length, i.e., the eternity of My goodness, the breadth, i.e., the love and desire that I have had from the eternity of Thy salvation. Go through this length and breadth, i.e., claim My Heart as your own, for yours is all the good that you find in it.”
And the Lord breathed upon her and said, “Receive the Holy Ghost.” And the saint’s heart was united to the Divine Heart, and she saw how the two merged together and formed as it were one lump of gold. And she heard the Lord say, “Thus shall your heart be forever mine, with all its desires and joys.”
