On one occasion St. Mechtilde asked the Lord Jesus: “What is the use of a book containing her revelations?” The Savior said to her,
All who seek me with faithful hearts will find joy in it, those who love me will be more kindled in my love, and those who are sad will find comfort in it.”

Flower of Devotion

The Lord Jesus is the source of our perfection

On one occasion, when St. Gertrude was listening to Mass with great devotion, it seemed to her that the Guardian Angel destined for her by God had taken her in his arms as a little girl and presented her to God the Father to bless her. And he said, “Bless this little girl of yours, O Lord, God the Father!” God was silent for a moment, as if He thought it was not worth the trouble to bless such a child. Therefore she looked into herself, and began to contemplate with great shame her own wickedness and unworthiness. But now the Son of God arose and allowed her to share in all the merits of His most holy life in satisfaction for her infirmities. Then it seemed to the saint that she was dressed in very beautiful and costly garments, and that she was grown to the measure of the full stature of Jesus Christ.
And now God the Father, propitiated and full of goodness, bowed down to her and gave her a threefold blessing, for the threefold forgiveness of all her sins which she had wronged in thought, word and deed against his justice. To this end, she also offered to God the Father the whole most holy life of his only-begotten Son. Then it seemed to her that the jewels with which her garments were adorned began to move among themselves, and to make sweet and joyful music to the eternal glory of God the Father. By this God the Father made her know how pleasing it is to Him when anyone offers Him the most perfect life of His Son. Then the Guardian Angel also offered her to God the Son, saying: “Bless your sister, O Son of the eternal King.” Finally, he offered it to the Holy Spirit, saying: “Bless this beloved of men, this beloved of yours!” She also received from Him a threefold blessing for the forgiveness of all the sins she had committed against the love of God.
Whoever wishes can ask for the grace of this ninefold blessing in the Mass of the Kyrie eleison.
