According to the apparitions of the Venerable Love of Jesus:
The day of God’s decree was drawing faster and nearer, when the true and living ark of the covenant, Love, was to be transferred to the temple of the heavenly Jerusalem. And with greater magnificence and glory than the type which Solomon had once introduced into the temple of Jerusalem. Three days before the happy death of this great Monarch, the Apostles gathered in the Upper Room. By divine decree they decided, both by interior inspiration and by angels, to go to Jerusalem, that they might be present at the death of their Queen. Some of them came from far away.
The Blessed Mother, bidding farewell to all those present, spoke to each of the Apostles individually, then to some of the disciples, and finally to all the faithful present together. When she stopped speaking, her words pierced like arrows kindled by the fire of God through the hearts of the Apostles and all present and crushed them. At the same time they all began to weep bitterly; Disconsolate in their grief, they fell to the ground, as if trying to soften it with sighs and sobs. They all wept, and with them the sweetest Mother Love; for she could not resist the bitter and justly grief of her children. After some time, she spoke again to those present and asked them to pray in silence for her and with her. Everyone did so.
While silence now reigned, the Incarnate Word descended from Heaven on a throne of ineffable glory.
With Him came all the blessed who were already in Heaven and an innumerable number of angels. The whole upper room shone with indescribable magnificence. Love fell down before the Lord and kissed his feet. And so, lying at the feet of her Son, she raised up the last and deepest act of humiliation of her entire life. More than ever before, a man who, after committing a sin, has humbled himself, or will in the future humble himself, Love, the purest of all creatures, the Queen of Heaven, has humbled and humiliated herself.
The Most Holy Son gave her his blessing and said to her in the presence of the blessed of Heaven:
>>My dearest Mother, whom I have chosen to dwell! Now the hour has come when you are to leave mortal life and this earthly world to enter into the splendor of Me and My Father. There is a throne prepared for you at My right hand, where you will enjoy happiness for all time. And since I have ordained that, as My Mother, You have come into the world without any fault or blemish, it follows that at the present time, in which You intend to leave the earthly world, death has no right to touch You. If you do not want to pass through the gate of death, then come with Me to possess My glory, which you have merited! The Blessed Mother fell on her knees before her Son and answered with a face radiant with joy:
“My Son and Lord, I earnestly beseech you that your Mother and handmaid may be permitted through the common gate of bodily death
to enter eternal life, as all the other children of Adam. You, My Son, who are My true God, suffered death, although You did not stand under the law of death. Wherefore it is only right that I should strive to imitate Thee in all things, as
I have all my life, and be like Thee at the hour of death.”
Our Saviour Jesus Christ consented to this sacrifice and to this provision of His Blessed Mother, and He replied that it would be done according to Her will.
Now the choirs of heaven sang in sonorous celestial harmonies a few stanzas from the Song of Solomon and a few other new songs which many of those present had heard. But that the Saviour Himself was present was seen only by a few of the apostles. Between them and St. John, by virtue of a separate enlightenment. The rest of them felt a particularly strong action of grace in their hearts. The music of the angels, on the other hand, was clearly heard by the external sense, not only by the apostles and disciples, but also by all the other faithful present. A heavenly fragrance also spread.
While the angels were playing their music, Love lay down on her bed, folded her hands, and, fixing her gaze constantly fixed on her most holy Son, began to burn with the fire of his divine love. And when the angels came to the second stanza of the Song of Solomon, “Arise, make haste, my friend, my dove, my beauty, and come, for the winter is past,” Love spoke the same words that her Son had spoken on the Cross: “Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit!”
Then she closed her virginal eyes and died.
The sickness that caused her death was love, not any suffering of the flesh. Love’s death was accomplished in such a way that God’s omnipotence miraculously ceased to sustain Love’s bodily powers; which, without this miraculous help, would have long ago been consumed by the unspeakable fever with which Love loved God. When, therefore, this miraculous sustenance ceased, this love prevailed over Love’s bodily strengths and consumed her vital juices; thus the existence of Love’s bodily life ceased.
This glorious death of the great Queen of the world took place on Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock. That is, at the same time as her Most Holy Son. It was August 13, and the Blessed Virgin was 70 years old minus 26 days.
