When St. Mechtilde once reproached herself before the Lord for never loving His Mother as she ought to have loved her, nor for giving her the honour she deserved, and for not serving her sufficiently, the Lord said to her:
“For this carelessness of yours, praise My Mother for her faithfulness, with which she has been faithful to Me in all things all her life, and has always put My will above Her will. Secondly, praise her faithfulness for persevering with me in all her afflictions, so that all the sufferings I have suffered in the flesh she has endured also in spirit. Thirdly, honour her faithfulness, for even in Heaven she is most faithful to me, and obtains from me the conversion of sinners. Through her reason and intercession, countless sinners were converted. And many souls, whom My justice could have condemned to eternal torment, saved Her mercy and freed them from purgatory.”
