On one occasion St. Mechtilde asked the Lord Jesus: “What is the use of a book containing her revelations?” The Savior said to her,
All who seek me with faithful hearts will find joy in it, those who love me will be more kindled in my love, and those who are sad will find comfort in it.”

Mary is the Mother of the dying

The Blessed Mother said to the venerable Mary of Jesus:

My daughter, I will reveal to you the privilege which My Most Holy Son has bestowed upon Me at the hour of my glorious death. As I have already revealed to you, My Lord has left it to Me to choose whether I want to accept death or whether I want to pass without dying to the eternal vision of the Deity. So if I wanted to avoid death, the Most High would agree to it. For just as sin had no access to Me, neither could death, which is the penalty of sin, touch My body. [I chose death though] (Parenthesis in the editor’s note, for the sake of the meaning of the sentence.) for far more important reasons, such as would have been the case with My Son, if He had willingly suffered His Passion and Death to redeem people. And so I too freely chose death in order to imitate the example of my Son and to become like Him as I was like Him by taking part in His bitter Passion.
For this reason this free choice of Mine was so much pleasing to the Most High, that, as a reward for it, and for the benefit of the children of the Church, He immediately granted me an extraordinary privilege, which was perfectly in line with My wishes. It consists in the fact that all My devotees, who at the hour of death invoke My mediation and ask God that, for the sake of My blessed death and for My love, with which, according to the example of the Saviour, I have chosen death voluntarily, all those who die in this way stand under My special protection. I will defend them from the enemies of their souls, I will help and encourage them, and finally I will bring them before the throne of God’s mercy, and there I will sustain them with My powerful cause.
