St. Bridget once heard the Lord Jesus speak to His Blessed Mother in rapture:
“There is an old proverb that whoever learns something in his youth will not forget it in his old age. In the same way, My Mother, you learned in your youth to do My will and to renounce your own will for Me. That is why you rightly said, “Thy will be done.” You are like a piece of precious gold that has been pulled out and beaten on a hard anvil. For you were slaughtered by all sorts of sorrows, and in My Passion you suffered more than others. For when, as a result of the violence of the suffering on the Cross, My heart was broken, Your Heart was wounded as if by a very sharp iron. If it were My will, You would gladly allow Your Heart to be cut in half. And if you could prevent My sufferings and save My life, you would only wish to do so, if it were My will. That is why you have rightly said, “Thy will be done!”
