St. Bridget heard in awe how the Lord Jesus spoke to His Blessed Mother:
Blessed be you, My dearest Mother! The angel Gabriel said to you, “Blessed are you, Mary, among women.” And I bear witness to you that you are a blessed saint above all choirs of angels! You are like a flower in a garden, which, although there are various fragrant flowers standing beside it, is superior to all in fragrance, beauty, and excellence. All these flowers are chosen from Adam until the end of the world; Planted in the garden of the world, they had various noble qualities and flourished in it. But among all that have existed and will continue to exist, you were the most excellent in perfume as well as in the charm of the fullest virginity and in the virtue of temperance. I give you testimony that in My Passion you were more than a martyr, and in continence more than a confessor, in mercy and good will more than an angel.
