On one occasion St. Mechtilde saw a golden ladder after the Gospel during Mass. Its top touched Heaven, and the Queen of glory descended upon it, carrying in her arms the lovely Child whom she seated on the altar. Her robe was of the brightest silver, and adorned with golden roses wonderfully woven in it. The child wore a green dress, with red showing through. And when the priest lifted up the Host, the Child also rose in his hand. And through Them all the things that were to happen through the Host happened at Mass.
