On one occasion the Lord Jesus said to St. Bridget:
Just as three good things were revealed to me by the presumptuousness of Judas, so through the offering of the Blessed Sacrament (even through the hands of an unworthy priest) three graces enter into the souls of men.
First, I am commended for my patience that, although I knew Judas was a traitor, I did not push him away from Me. Secondly, when the traitor stood with his henchmen, they all fell to the ground at My word, and My power was revealed. Thirdly, I exchanged all the malice of Judas and Satan for the salvation of souls, whereby the wisdom and love of God were revealed. In the same way, the priestly sacrifice implies a threefold good. First, the whole heavenly army praises My patience, that I am always the same in the hand of a priest, good or bad. For I have no respect for persons, nor is it human merits that complete this sacrament, but My words. Secondly, because this offering benefits all, even though it is performed by any priest. Thirdly, that it also benefits the givers themselves, even if they are wholly evil. For as after one word that I have spoken, namely, >>I am!” My enemies have fallen to the ground in the flesh; and in this way, after pronouncing My word, “This is My Body,” the evil spirits flee, and cease to tempt the souls of the sacrificers. Nor would they dare to return to them so boldly afterwards, if there had not been a renewed desire to sin in their souls.
