The Lord Jesus revealed to St. Gertrude that whenever anyone listens to Mass devoutly, he will turn his attention entirely to God, who offers Himself in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar for the salvation of the world; God the Father looks upon him with the same delight with which he looks upon the Holy Sacrifice itself.
Then St. Gertrude asked: “O Lord, will anyone lose this happiness who falls into grave sin, just as he who returns from the sunlight and loses the lovely splendor of that light?” And the Lord said, “No. For although the sinner himself in a way obscures the light of My divine reconciliation, yet My goodness always keeps alive in him the sign and trace of this happiness unto eternal life. He is multiplied so often as he tries to listen to Mass devoutly and to receive the Holy Sacraments in the same way.”
