St. Gertrude once said to the Lord,
“Teach me, most loving of all teachers, how I can cleanse myself from the stains of sins I have committed.” And the Lord said to her, “Do not let them sprout in your soul for long, but say, as soon as you see them, from the depths of your heart, ‘My God, have mercy on me’ (Psalm 50).” Or: “Lord Jesus, my only hope, grant me the grace to blot out all my sins through the merits of your saving death!”
