On one occasion St. Mechtilde asked the Lord Jesus: “What is the use of a book containing her revelations?” The Savior said to her,
All who seek me with faithful hearts will find joy in it, those who love me will be more kindled in my love, and those who are sad will find comfort in it.”

A prayer to obtain graces at the hour of death

Words of Saint Mechtilde:

Lord God, thank you for all the graces you have given us, which you still give us and will give us forever.
I am asking You, Heavenly Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ, deign to cleanse me by Your grace from all my sins and strengthen me against them and sanctify me with all the virtues to eternal life. I am begging You, Lord Jesus Christ, by Your holy death and the terrible pain that Your Holy Body endured on the Cross, by the power of Your divine mercy and Your human faithfulness and the grace of the Holy Spirit, look with kindness on my tribulation and on my approaching hour of death. And grant me, when it approaches, Your Most Holy Body, so that I may accept You with true faith, with heartfelt love, and that Your Most Holy Body may be and remain the last meal of my body and the eternal sustenance of my poor soul.
I also ask You, Lord, to comfort this soul of mine with Yourself and free it from all enemies. And finally, He took her into Your fatherly hands and carried her, to my greatest joy, from this earthly misery to Your full of happiness homeland. So that, O Lord, with all the blessed and saints who are there or who will come there, I may praise and glorify You forever and ever. Amen.
